1 ALL wisdom is from the Lord; she dwells with him for ever. 2Who can count the sands of the sea, the raindrops, or the days of unending time? 3Who can measure the height of the sky, the breadth of the earth, or the depth of the abyss a 1:3 of the abyss: prob. rdg; Gk adds or wisdom. ? 4Wisdom was first of all created things; intelligent purpose has existed from the beginning b 1:4 from the beginning: some witnesses add 5The fountain of wisdom is God's word on high, and her ways are eternal commandments. . 6To whom has the root of wisdom been revealed? Who has understanding of her subtlety c 1:6 of her subtlety: some witnesses add 7Who has discovered all that wisdom knows, or understood her wealth of experience? ? 8One alone is wise, the Lord most terrible, seated upon his throne. 9It is he who created her, beheld and measured her, and infused her into all his works. 10To everyone he has given her in some degree, but without stint to those who love him. 11 THE fear of the Lord brings honour and pride, cheerfulness and a garland of joy. 12The fear of the Lord gladdens the heart; it brings cheerfulness and joy and long life. 13Whoever fears the Lord, it will be well with him at the last, and on the day of his death blessings will be his. 14The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord; she is created with the faithful in their mother's womb, 15she has built an everlasting home among mortals, and with their descendants she will keep faith. 16The full measure of wisdom is the fear of the Lord; she gives to mortals deep draughts of her wine. 17She fills her home with all that the heart can desire, and her storehouses with her produce. 18Wisdom's garland is the fear of the Lord, flowering with peace and perfect health. 19She showers down knowledge and discernment, and bestows high honour on those who hold fast to her. 20Wisdom is rooted in the fear of the Lord, and long life grows on her branches d 1:20 on her branches: some witnesses add 21The fear of the Lord drives away sins, and wherever it dwells it averts his anger. .

22Unjust rage can never be excused; when anger tips the scale it is a person's downfall. 23Until the right moment comes, he who is patient restrains himself, and afterwards cheerfulness breaks through again; 24until the right moment he keeps his thoughts to himself, and later his good sense is on everyone's lips. 25In wisdom's treasure house are wise proverbs, but godliness is detestable to a sinner. 26If you long for wisdom, keep the commandments, and the Lord will give it you without stint. 27The fear of the Lord is wisdom and instruction; fidelity and gentleness are his delight. 28Do not disregard the fear of the Lord or approach him without sincerity. 29Do not act a part before the eyes of the world; keep guard over your lips. 30Never be arrogant, or you will fall and bring disgrace on yourself; the Lord will reveal your secrets and humble you before the assembly, because what prompted you was not the fear of the Lord e 1:30 because…the Lord: or because you had no concern for the fear of the Lord. : guile filled your heart.
