Climate, Flora, and Fauna

Adrian Curtis

Seasons

The latitude of Palestine is roughly that of southern Spain in Europe or Georgia in the USA. Its climate is also influenced by the configurations of the land and its proximity to the sea on the west and the desert on the east. Although it possesses a variety of climate, in general it has two main seasons: a ‘winter’ (including also the autumn and the spring), which is the cooler rainy season, and a summer which is rainless, sunny, and often very hot. The dryness of the summer is relieved by dew, important for the ripening of the summer fruits. (On the occurrence of dew, see Judges 6: 36–40 .)
