The Qumran Community

During the latter half of the 2nd century BCE, a group of people, in all probability belonging to one of the major religious movements of the time, the Essenes, established themselves at Qumran and the nearby spring at ‘Ain Feshka, on the north‐west shore of the Dead Sea. It was this group which was responsible for the writing and/or preserving of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
