The Third Letter of John - Introduction

The third letter is addressed to an individual named Gaius whom the author says he loves and who was perhaps a “disciple” of the author. This letter is about hospitality in the mission. It opposes the work of Diotrephes, possibly a rival elder, who may have sided with the opponents of the author and refused hospitality. It indicates that the opponents and their supporters had already withdrawn hospitality to our author and his supporters.
