1‘AT that time there will appear Michael the great captain, who stands guarding your fellow-countrymen; and there will be a period of anguish such as has never been known ever since they became a nation till that moment. But at that time your people will be delivered, everyone whose name is entered in the book: 2many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to everlasting life and some to the reproach of eternal abhorrence. 3The wise leaders will shine like the bright vault of heaven, and those who have guided the people in the true path will be like the stars for ever and ever.
4‘But you, Daniel, keep the words secret and seal the book until the time of the end. Many will rush to and fro, trying to gain such knowledge.’
5I, Daniel, looked and saw two others standing, one on this bank of the river and the other on the farther bank. 6To the man robed in linen who was above the waters of the river I a 12:6 I: so Gk; Heb. he. said, ‘How long will it be until the end of these portents?’ 7The man robed in linen who was above the waters raised his right hand and his left heavenwards, and I heard him swear by him who lives for ever: ‘It shall be for a time and times and half a time. When the power of the holy people is no longer being shattered, all these things will cease.’
8I heard, but I did not understand; so I said, ‘Sir, what will be the outcome of these things?’ 9He replied, ‘Go your way, Daniel, for the words are to be kept secret and sealed till the time of the end. 10Many will purify themselves and be refined, making themselves shining white, but the wicked will continue in wickedness and none of them will understand; only the wise leaders will understand. 11From the time when the regular offering is abolished and “the abomination of desolation” is set up, one thousand two hundred and ninety days will elapse. 12Happy are those who wait and live to see the completion of one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days! 13But you, Daniel, go your way till the end; you will rest, and then, at the end of the age, you will arise to your destiny.’
