1The words of the blessing of Enoch according to which he blessed the chosen and righteous who must be 1 Gk.a ‘will be’. present on the day of distress which is appointed for the removal of all the wicked and impious. 2 the wicked and impious: UD′ ‘the impious’; Gk.a ‘the enemies, and the righteous will be saved’. 2And Enoch answered 3 Gk.a ‘took up his parable’, and so probably Aram. and said, There was a righteous man whose eyes were opened by the Lord, 4 whose eyes … the Lord: Gk.a ‘to whom a vision from God was disclosed’. and he saw a holy vision in the heavens 5 GMD′BY ‘a vision of the Holy One in the heavens’; Gk.a ‘a vision of the Holy One and of heaven’. which the angels showed to me. And I heard everything from them, and I understood what I saw, 6 which the angels … what I saw: Gk.a ‘He showed it to me, and the holy ones speaking holy things I heard; and when I heard everything from them, I understood as I looked’. but not for this generation, 7 Gk.a adds ‘did I take thought’. but for a distant generation which will come. 8 Gk.a ‘but to a distant one I will speak’, and so probably Aram. 3Concerning the chosen I spoke, and I uttered a parable 9 Gk.a ‘and I took up my parable’. concerning them, The Holy and Great One 10 Gk.a ‘My Holy Great One’. will come out from his 4dwelling, and the Eternal God will tread from there 11 from there: Gk.a ‘upon earth’. upon mount Sinai, and he will appear with his host, 12 with his host: Gk.a ‘from his camp’. and will appear in the strength of his power from heaven. 13 Gk.a ‘from the heaven of heavens’. 5And all will be afraid, and the Watchers will shake, 14 will shake: Gk.a ‘will believe, and they will sing hidden things in all the ends of the 〈earth〉, and all the ends of the earth will shake’. and fear and great trembling will seize them unto the ends of the earth. 6And the high mountains will be shaken, 15 D′ ‘will fall and be shaken’; Gk.a ‘will be shaken and fall and be broken up’. and the high hills will be made low, 16 Gk.a adds ‘so that the mountains will waste away’. and will melt like wax before the flame. 7And the earth will sink 17 GQT2D′ Gk.a ‘will be split open’. and everything that is on the earth will be destroyed, and there will be judgement upon all, and upon all the righteous. 18 and upon all the righteous: Gk.a om. 8But for the righteous he will make peace, and he will keep safe the chosen, 19 and he will keep safe the chosen: Gk.a ‘and upon the chosen will be protection and peace’. and mercy will be upon them. This verse is cited in Jude 14f. He 24 Jude ‘The Lord’. comes with ten thousand holy ones 25 Gk.a ‘with his ten thousands and his holy ones’; Jude ‘with his holy ten thousands’. to execute judgement upon them, 26 D′ Gk.a Jude ‘upon all’. and to destroy the impious, and to contend with 27 contend with: Eth I (cp. Gk.a Jude) ‘reprove’. all flesh 28 and to destroy … all flesh: Gk.a ‘and he will destroy all the impious and will reprove all flesh’; Jude ‘and to reprove all the impious’. Some Eth. MSS follow Gk.a in having a future construction. concerning everything which the sinners and the impious have done and wrought against him. 29 concerning … him: Gk.a ‘concerning all the deeds of their impiety which they have impiously committed, and the hard words which they have spoken, and concerning all the things which the impious sinners have spoken against him’; Jude ‘concerning all the deeds of their impiety which they have impiously committed, and concerning all the hard things which the impious sinners have spoken against him’. Aram., like Gk.a and Jude, probably also had a clause referring to the ‘hard words’ spoken by the impious.
