1And after this my great-grandfather Enoch gave me the explanation 1 D′ ‘teaching’. of all the secrets in a book and the parables which had been given to him; and he put them together for me in the words of the Book 2 G ‘in the book of the words’. of the Parables. 2And on that day the holy 3 the holy: Eth.I om. The power of the spirit seizes me and makes me tremble 5 and makes me tremble: all MSS (except D′) ‘and makes me angry’, but it seems likely that the wrong meaning of the underlying Aramaic word was followed. D′ ‘and makes me go up’. because of 6 Q Eth.II (except Y) ‘and because of’. the harshness of the judgement of the secrets, the judgement of the angels. 7 of the angels: GMTUD′ om. Who can endure the harshness of the judgement which has been executed, 8 Eth.II adds ‘and remains’. and before which they melt with fear? 3And the holy 3 the holy: Eth.I om. Michael answered Raphael again, and said to him, 9 GQU ‘answered me again, and said to Raphael’. Who would not soften his heart 10 T2 ‘Whose heart would not be softened’; GMQT1U ‘Whose heart would not feel convicted’; D′ ‘Whose heart has not felt convicted’. over it, and whose mind would not be disturbed by this word? Judgement has gone out 11 GQD′ ‘by this word of judgement which has gone out’ (GQ om. ‘which’). against them, upon 12 Or ‘from’, or ‘because of’. those whom they have led out like this. 4But it came to pass, when he 13 D′ ‘they’. stood before the Lord of Spirits, that the holy 3 GQTUD′ ‘those’. Michael spoke as follows to Raphael, I will not take their part under the eye of the Lord, for the Lord of Spirits is angry with them, for they act as if they were the Lord. 5Because of this the hidden judgement 14 the hidden judgement: Eth.I ‘everything which is hidden’. will come upon them for ever and ever; for neither any other angel, nor any man, will receive their lot, but they alone have received their judgement for ever and ever.
