1And in those days Uriel 1 Uriel: Q om.; GMTD′ ‘the angel Uriel’; D′a defective. answered me and said to me, Behold I have shown you 2 GTUD′ ‘I will show you’. everything, O Enoch, and have revealed everything to you, that you may see this sun, and this moon, and those who lead the stars of heaven, and all those who turn them, their tasks, and their times 3 GMTD′D′ a add ‘and they turn them’. and their rising. 2But in the days of the sinners the years will become shorter, and their seed will be late on their land and on their fields, and all things on the earth will change, and will not appear at their proper time. And the rain will be withheld, and heaven will retain it. 4 GQT1UD′D′ a ‘will stand still’. 3And in those times the fruits of the earth will be late and will not grow at their proper time, and the fruits of the trees will be withheld at their proper time. 4And the moon will change its customary practice, and will not appear at its proper time. 5But in those days it will appear in heaven, 5 it will appear in heaven: so GTUD′D′ a; all other MSS ‘heaven will appear (or ‘will be seen’)’. and come … 6 Text unintelligible; I have omitted the word ‘drought’ which all MSS read here (‘and drought will come’). on top 7 on top: possible meaning but text obscure. of a large chariot in the west, and shine with more than normal brightness. 6And many heads of the stars in command will go astray, 8 in command (lit. ‘of command’) will go astray: Q2 ‘will go astray in regard to the command’; GQ1D′OB′ corrupt. and these will change their courses and their activities, and will not appear at the times which have been prescribed for them. 7And the entire law of the stars will be closed to the sinners, and the thoughts of those who dwell upon the earth 9 GMQT1UD′D′ a ‘of those on the earth’. will go astray over them, and they will turn from all their ways, and will go astray, and will think them gods. 8And many evils will overtake them, 10 Lit. ‘And evil will increase over them’. and punishment will come upon them to destroy them all.
