1,2And the Eternal Mighty One said to me, Abraham. And I said, Here am I. 3And he said, 1 And he said = JK: S om.; K adds ‘to me’. Look down at those stars that are below you: count them, and tell me how many there are. 4And I said, How 2 Lit. ‘when’. can I, for I am but a man? 3 J ‘for I am but dust and ashes’; K ‘for I am a man, but dust and ashes’. 5And he said to me, As the number of the stars and their might, so will I appoint [for] your descendants a race of people – a people set apart for me in my heritage with Azazail. 6And I said, Eternal One, Mighty One, let thy servant speak in thy presence, and may thy fury not be provoked against thy chosen one. 7Behold, before thou didst raise me up here, Azazail reviled me: so how now, when he is not before thee, hast thou joined 4 Lit. ‘established’. thyself with him. 5 So JK: S ‘them’.
