Text Commentary

1And in the night, while I was asleep, there came to me a loud voice with a very great light, saying, Jobab, Jobab. 2And I said, Here am I; and it said, Get up and I will show you who it is you want to know. 3He to whom they bring the whole burnt-offerings and pour out drink-offerings is not God but the power of the Devil, by whom human nature is 1 Lit. ‘will be’. deceived. 4And when I heard this, I fell down on my bed in worship. 5And I said, My lord, who hast come 6for the salvation of my soul; I beg thee, if this is the sanctuary 2 Lit. ‘place’. of Satan, by whom men are 1 Lit. ‘will be’. deceived, give me authority to go out 7and cleanse his sanctuary, 2 Lit. ‘place’. so that I can put an end to his drink-offerings – and who is there to stop me, seeing I am king of this land?

Notes:

1 Lit. ‘will be’.
