1And I answered her, Lo, I have been afflicted by diseases for seventeen years, and I have submitted patiently to the worms in my body. 2But I have never been so dispirited by the pains as by the words you have just uttered, Curse 1 Lit. ‘Speak a word against’. the Lord and die. 3This is a burden we both of us bear together – the loss of our children and possessions: would you have us now curse 1 Lit. ‘Speak a word against’. the Lord and so deprive ourselves of 2 Lit. ‘and so be alienated from’. the great wealth that is to be? 4Why is it you do not remember the great benefits we once enjoyed? If, then, we have received good at the Lord's hand, should we not also endure evil? 5But let us be patient till the Lord is moved with pity and shows us mercy. 6Do you not see the Devil standing behind you and turning what goes on in your mind upside down, so that he can lead me astray as well? For he wants to cast 3 Lit. ‘show’. you as one of those brainless women who subvert their own husbands' integrity.
