Text Commentary

1,2And I answered and said, Indeed, no, O Lord, my lord. And he answered and said to me, Why then are you troubled about what you do not know, and upset by things you do not understand. 3For just as you have not forgotten the people who now are, and those who have passed away, so I remember those who are to come. 1 Text ‘so I remember those who are remembered and those who are to come’. 4Because when Adam sinned and death was decreed against those who were to be born from him, then the number of those to be born was fixed, and for that number a place was prepared where the living might live out their lives and the dead might be kept in security. 5Thus, until that number is reached, no creature will live again (since my spirit is the creator of life) and Sheol will receive the dead. 6And again, you are to be privileged to hear what is to come after these times. 7For my redemption is near and is not as far away as once it was.

Notes:

1 Text ‘so I remember those who are remembered and those who are to come’.
