1But as for you, if you prepare your hearts, and sow in them the fruits of the law, it will be a protection to you when the Mighty One shakes the whole creation. 2For after a little while the building of Zion will be shaken so that it may be built again. 3But that building will not endure, but will after a time be razed to the ground, 1 Lit. ‘be rooted out’. and it will remain desolate until the appointed time. 4And afterwards it must be renewed in glory and be made perfect for evermore. 5We should not, therefore, be distressed 2 Text has the active ‘cause grief’. so much over the evil which has come now as over what is still to be. 6For there will be a greater trial than either of these two tribulations when the Mighty One renews his creation. 7And now, do not come near me for a few days, and do not seek me out until I come to you. 8And when I had said all this to them, I, Baruch, went my way; and when the people saw me going they cried out in dismay, 3 Lit. ‘they lifted up their voice and lamented’. saying, 9Where are you going, Baruch, are you going to desert us, as a father might desert his children, and leave them orphans?
