    anthropology

Usually the study of mankind's cultures, customs, and cults—but in Christian theology it is used for the doctrine that men and women are made in the image of God, distorted by sin. Some modern theologians have ‘reduced’ the doctrine of Christ (Christology) to an understanding of human beings (anthropology): for example, the resurrection of Christ is interpreted not as Christ's dead body being raised to new life on Easter Day, but as a multitude of individual believers' risings to new life when they responded to the Easter preaching.
