The place near Mamre where the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and their wives were buried (Gen. 49: 29; 50: 12–13). The site was in or near Hebron (Gen. 23: 19), but in Shechem according to Acts 7: 15–16. Walls possibly built in the time of Herod the Great surround the Hebron site, which is venerated by both Jews and Muslims.
