A NT view that Christ already existed, in eternity, before he became man. He was altogether outside time. This view is expressed in the gospel of John (17: 5) and by Paul (Col. 1: 15 ff.). It was their experience of a divine dimension in Jesus that made them declare that he must always and eternally have existed. It could be argued on the basis of the prologue to John's gospel that the Logos was pre‐existent and that when Jesus was born (John 1: 14) the Logos was then identified with the Jesus of history.
