Those who are faithful to God and love him (Ps. 31: 23) and are dedicated to his service (Dan. 7: 27) as the ‘holy ones’. In the NT the ‘saints’ are Christians as distinct from non-believers (1 Cor. 6: 2); they belong to Jesus Christ and are God's beloved (Rom. 1: 6–7), and are members of particular communities, e.g. Jerusalem (Acts 9: 13) or Lydda (Acts 9: 32). In Rev. (17: 6) they are martyrs for the faith.
