    Gabbatha

In John 19: 13 this is said to be the Hebrew (though, rather, Aramaic) name for the place of Pilate's judgement seat, called in Greek the Pavement, being a street paved with stones. Such a site has been excavated at the Antonia fortress on high ground north of the Temple in Jerusalem, and there are lines which could have been cut by soldiers for a game. They could have been playing it during the mocking of Jesus (John 19: 3). On the other hand, another opinion holds that this street was not laid down until the time of Hadrian (135 CE).
