    Gilead

A name for three minor persons (Josh. 17: 1; Judg. 11: 1; 1 Chron. 5: 14), but more importantly of a mountainous area east of the Jordan (Deut. 3: 16) and famous for its balm (Jer. 8: 22) which was in that reference translated ‘triacle’ in Miles Coverdale's Great Bible of 1539: hence its popular title ‘the Treacle Bible’.
