The word translated ‘orator’ by AV (Isa. 3: 3) is better rendered ‘enchanter’ (NRSV, REB) or ‘soothsayer’ (NJB). The ‘orator’ Tertullus (Acts 24: 1) is better described as an ‘advocate’ (REB, NJB).
