An area in SW Asia Minor in which Jews were living in the 2nd cent. BCE (1 Macc. 15: 23) and which was included in Paul's itinerary. At Perga John Mark left the party (Acts 13: 13) and at Attalia Paul and Barnabas boarded a ship for Antioch (Acts 14: 24–6). Pamphylia was raised to provincial status by the Romans in 74 CE.
