Greetings. In the OT they are lengthy and formal (as Ps. 118: 26) and prolonged (cf. 2 Kgs. 4: 29) or obsequious (Dan. 4: 9). An extended greeting is implied in the command to the Twelve on their missionary journey (Matt. 10: 12–13). ‘Go in peace’ (1 Sam. 1: 17) were the words of farewell.
