The vast quantities of particles of sand afford many apt allusions in both OT and NT. The descendants of Jacob are to be as numerous as the sand of the sea (Gen. 32: 12), and Paul quotes Isaiah's prediction that of this great number only a remnant will be saved (Rom. 9: 27). Sand, though heavy (Job 6: 3), is dangerously deceptive when wet and a building g on it will collapse (Matt. 7: 26).
