Used literally of plants or corn (Deut. 11: 10), as in Jesus' parables (Mark 4: 26–9; 30–32), but also used of human descendants (Mark 12: 19, AV, RV; modern versions interpret as ‘children’ or ‘heir’), especially of Abraham (Rom. 4: 13, AV, RV; modern versions prefer ‘descendants’), meaning Israel.
