Various types of wheat existed in Palestine. The quantity produced depended on the vagaries of the weather. Crops could be plentiful (1 Kgs. 5: 10–11), or negligible (Gen. 43: 1–2). The translation ‘corn’ (e.g. Mark 2: 23) is adopted by AV, REB, and NJB, but NRSV has ‘grain’.
