The oldest part of Jerusalem, captured by David (2 Sam. 5: 7–8) and expanded by Solomon (1 Kgs. 6–7). But in Luke 2: 4 Bethlehem is so described, on the ground that it was the ancestral home of King David (Mic. 5: 2).
