Ezekiel's wife is called the ‘desire’ (AV; ‘delight’, NRSV) of his eyes; the object of his love, who died (Ezek. 24: 18). The word in Hebrew expresses strong emotion, and desire could turn to evil covetousness, as for money (1 Tim. 6: 9), and to a greed approaching idolatry (Col. 3: 5).
