Also called Bar‐Jesus; a Jewish sorcerer at Paphos (Acts 13: 6–12). When Elymas tried to dissuade the proconsul of Cyprus from embracing Christianity, Paul caused him to be struck with temporary blindness. The proconsul was ‘astonished’ (NRSV).
