Used in connection with Solomon's throne (2 Chron. 9: 18), but also metaphorically of the subjection of Israel's enemies to God (Ps. 110: 1; quoted in the NT—Matt. 22: 44; Acts 2: 35; Heb. 10: 13). The earth itself is described as God's footstool by Isa. 66: 1, Matt. 5: 35, and Acts 7: 49.
