In a series of parables, Jesus speaks of the growth of the kingdom of God (e.g. the Mustard Seed, Mark 4: 30–32), where the contrast is made between the tiny almost invisible seed and the final result. Just as growth happened in a mysterious, hidden, but assured process, so the Kingdom will develop from its small beginnings in the ministry of Jesus. The Kingdom is both present and yet not fully present. For Mark's readers the parable is an encouragement that at the End the glory of the Kingdom will stand revealed.
