A court official in Babylon who issued a proclamation from King Nebuchadnezzar (Dan. 3: 4), but in Isa. 40: 9 one who announces good tidings. Paul is similarly called a herald of good news in 1 Tim. 2: 7, as is Noah (‘a herald of righteousness’, NRSV; ‘who proclaimed righteousness’, REB; ‘the preacher’, NJB, in 2 Pet. 2: 5).
