A writing to provide information at a glance. 1. Jesus was shown a silver coin (Matt. 22: 20). When he asked whose inscription was on it, the reply was ‘the emperor's’. The wording will have read: Tiberius Caesar, son of the deified Augustus, Augustus. 2. Another inscription (Matt. 27: 37) was the charge against Jesus at his crucifixion. It consisted of a placard either hung round his neck or fastened to the cross, alleging Messianic pretensions.
