Used by the AV for ‘entrails’ (NRSV, Exod. 29: 13) and the seat of truth (Ps. 51: 6) or of wickedness (Ps. 5: 9, which NRSV renders ‘hearts’). Jesus used the word (Luke 11: 39) of the invisible evil disposition of the Pharisees.
