The ninth son of Jacob, born to Leah, and ancestor of the tribe occupying part of northern Canaan west of the Sea of Galilee (Josh. 17: 10) which was overrun by the Assyrians in 732 BCE. His brother was Zebulun (Gen. 30: 18–20).
